A Place for All Interests
Our recreation center is designed to accommodate a wide range of interests and needs. Whether you’re looking to break a sweat indoors or enjoy the great outdoors, we offer state-of-the-art facilities to support your favorite activities. Explore our variety of spaces and amenities, all available year-round.
Nikiski Pool
The Nikiski Pool is a recreational pool heated to approximately 84 degrees. It features a 136′ water slide, spa, rain umbrella, diving area and depths ranging from 1′ to 11′-10″.
Children under 10 years of age are required to be closely supervised & accompanied in the water by a person at least 16 years of age.
The pool is handicap accessible with a zero depth entry, and access to a pool chair lift that provides entry to the pool and spa. Surrounded by glass the pool offers excellent views of the surrounding terrain and wildlife.
Swimming Lessons, Lifeguard Classes and Aquatic Classes are offered throughout the year.
Fitness Room & Courts
There are two courts available for Raquetball or Wally Ball. It is best to call and reserve a court, but walk-ins are welcome. No street shoes are allowed on the blue floor past the door. Minors (14-16) wishing to utilize the exercise room must attend an orientation that is held monthly.
Nikiski Community Recreation Center
The Nikiski Community Recreation Center (NCRC) is located at mile 23.4 on the Kenai Spur Highway, just off Poolside Avenue. The facility features a gymnasium, banquet/multi-purpose rooms, a teen center, a full-swing golf simulator, and classrooms.
Activities
The North Peninsula Recreation Service Area offers a variety of recreational activities at NCRC. Youth Sport programs and camps run year round offering organized sports for both youth and adults. Toddler Time and Home School Open Gym offer gym time to young children, and basketball and volleyball open gyms are popular with the adults as well as our Adult Volleyball League.
Teens are kept active in NCRC’s own teen center and entertained by monthly teen nights.
Golf lovers enjoy the Full Swing Golf Simulator, with practice settings and world-class courses available.
For those looking to get fit, we now offer bicycle spinning classes throughout the week.
Events
Summer is exceptionally active with the annual Nikiski Youth Track Meet, Summer Day Camp, Family Fun in the Midnight Sun, and Northern Light Sport Camps. As well as a variety of smaller events and teen acitivities planned throughout the season.
Rentals
Rentals are convenient at NCRC with extensive space and equipment available. Anything from a birthday party, corporate trainings, fundraisers, to large wedding receptions are easily accommodated at NCRC.
Facility Rentals are available Monday through Friday during and outside of operating hours. Rental Requests require at least two weeks advance notice and a completed rental agreement. A non-refundable 50% deposit is required at time of booking.
Jason Peterson Memorial Ice Rink
The Jason Peterson Memorial Ice Rink is a weather protected rink with natural ice. Weather Permitting, the ice is usually available November through March. The rink has timed lighting and is available for late night skating.
In the summer the rink becomes multi-purpose and users must check in and reserve times at the NPRSA Administration Building. The rink is also used for special events, summer camp, sporting camps, etc. when the weather is poor.
Trails & Disc Golf
NPRSA has two beautiful trail systems that are a must visit! These wooded trails offer scenic views and nature & the Poolside Trails feature an 18-hole Disc Golf Course.
The trails are opened and maintained all season.
Nikiski Community Trails
The Nikiski Community Trails are located adjacent to the Nikiski High School.
Poolside Trails / Disc Golf Course
The trails are usually free from ice and snow about the first week of June. Fitness stations are located along the first loop of the Poolside Trail for those who are serious about getting into and staying in shape.
Nature enthusiasts can find plenty to look at along the trail. If solitude is what you seek, the trail leads to a picnic shelter located on the banks of a beautiful lake.
The Poolside Trails feature an 18-hole Disc Golf Course. The Par 63 Fairways are challenging for those seeking the competitive edge, but yet ejoyable for the entire family.
Maps and Disc Golf Score Cards are located at each trailhead (adjacent to Nikiski Pool and at the north end of the parking lot of the NCRC).
Trails Schedule
The trails are open during the daylight hours. Available for cross-country skiing in the winter and jogging, walking or hiking in the summer.
Pets, bicycles, and motorized vehicles are not allowed on these trails.
Outdoor Spaces
Get outside and enjoy some of our other outdoor spaces.
Skate Park
Located adjacent to the Nikiski Community Recreation Center, the NPRSA Skate Park features various ramps, jumps, boxes and park equipment for all ages to enjoy.
Adult Supervision is recommended for children under the age of 12 years. Safety Equipment (helmets, pads, etc.) is recommended.
Bikes and scooters are prohibited.
Open from May to October the skate park is open to Skate Boarders during daylight hours.
ID’s will be provided for Season Pass holders.
Community Playground
Located centrally between the Nikiski Pool and the Nikiski Community Recreation Center, the community playground is uniquely designed with emphasis on wildlife and nature, industry, and the local flare of our wonderful community.
Community playgrounds and parks create a sense of community and common ground. They offer an opportunity for families to connect and give children a chance to learn life lessons, experience success early and to dream big. Our playground offers free opportunities to get out and play, which in turn promotes physical activity and is key to maintaining healthy lifestyles and good health.
