At the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area, we offer a wide variety of programs designed for individuals and families. From fitness classes to youth sports, our programs are tailored to promote physical activity, personal development and community involvement. Calling all little adventurers and their grown-ups! It’s time to explore, create, and play together at Mini and Me: Tiny Explorers at the Nikiski Recreation Center! This 4 part program is created for kids ages 2 to 5! Join us as we dance, read stories, make art, and have a yummy snack. Each week will have a new theme such as: Earthy Explorers, Slimy Scientists, Splashy Creators, and Treasure Hunters! Mini and Me is designed to encourage parents to play with their children in a messy, fun-filled way, so come dressed to get creative!
Top Notch Chef
Days: 3rd Saturday of each month, Coming Fall 2026
Time: 1:30-3:00pm
Ages: 6th-8th Grade
Cost: $5/class
Top Notch chefs is designed to introduce teens to a world of flavor. For the next nine months, we will feature a new flavor once a month that will be sure to question ones tastebuds. Flavors such as robust, savory, salty, sweet, tender, and pungent are just a few that we will explore. Starting in September, we will feature one of the following: an appetizer, an entree, or a dessert and focus on how to combine different spices to create the taste we are going for. Join us on the third Saturday of each month, starting in September.
Master Chef Jr.
Days: 1st Saturday of each month, Coming Fall 2026
Time: 1:30-3:00pm
Ages: 3rd-5th Grade

Calling all young foodies in 3rd to 5th grade — it’s time to put on your aprons for Master Chef Jr at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center! Join us from 1:30 to 3 PM on the first Saturday of each month for cooking various dishes. You don't want to miss out, this is going to be amazing.
Adult Art Night
Days: 4th Friday of each month starting in September 2026 – May 2027
Time: 6:00-8:00pm
Ages: 16 & Up
Cost: $15 per Class
Get inspired and get creative at the Nikiski Recreation Center—every 4th Friday of the month starting in September, from 6 to 8 PM, Sept-May. Join us for fun, hands-on art classes where you'll explore acrylic painting, watercolor magic, decoupage design, rub-on transfers, fluid painting, stain glass, and Cricut design. Each session features a new technique and texture. This class is perfect for beginners or seasoned artists ages 16 and up! All supplies included—just bring your imagination.

On Friday, August 7th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, the Jason Peterson Memorial Ice Rink in Nikiski is taking it back to the '80s with an evening of skating, awesome music, laser lights, delicious food vendors, a high-energy DJ, and a FREE Ice Cream Social!
Best of all, it's completely FREE and open to all ages. So, lace up your Roller skates, bring the whole family, and skate your heart out at our 80's Family Skate Night! We can't wait to see you there!
Nikiski Color Fun Run & Backpack Giveaway!
August 15th 10-3pm
Looking for the most colorful day of the summer? Then don't miss the Nikiski Color Fun Run on Saturday, August 15th at the Nikiski Recreation Center Trails!
Registration begins at 10:00, the run starts at 11, and the fun continues until 3:00 PM with a free hotdog BBQ, chips, beverages, and a backpack giveaway while supplies last!
Wear your craziest costume and get ready to be showered in bright colors as you run, walk, or dance your way through the course.
Admission is simple—just bring four non-expired, non-perishable food items to support our local food bank, and you'll receive your race number.
Come for the color, stay for the fun, and help make a difference in our community! The Nikiski Color Fun Run—August 15th. We can't wait to see you there!
Nikiski Trick or Treat Alley

Come Join the North Peninsula Recreation Service Area as we celebrate Halloween on Friday October 31st from 5:30pm to 7pm with , craft, hay rides, costumes, Decorations and plenty of Treats! it’s a night of spooky, spine-tingling fun for the whole family! this event is Free for all and if you are daring enough to sponsor a space to decorate and give out candy, we welcome your spooky creative generosity! call 776-8800 to host a space today!

Winter Fest

Join the North Peninsula Recreational Service Area at the Jason Peterson Memorial Rink for a magical snowy celebration of the season!
At WinterFest, adventurers can experience the thrill of our Scavenger hunt, As you snowshoe or ski through trails in our frosty wilderness, keep your eyes peeled for mysterious tracks and hidden clues that hint at the presence of our legendary creature.
Activities include; family skate, snow field games, scavenger hunt, alumni hockey game, bonfire, hot dogs and S'mores! Fun for all, so dress for the snow and ice, come on out for the WinterFest!
Easter EGGstravaganza
March 20th 2027
Hop on over to the Easter EGGstravaganza at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center! It's a fun-filled opportunity for the whole family. Our Easter egg hunt is for kids ages 0 to 10, with plenty of eggs and surprises to find! In our craft room, kids and adults can create their own pop-up Easter bunny surprise. Plus, they can decorate a yummy Easter cookie with the most delicious frosting. If that is not enough, this year we will have a petting zoo where you will have the opportunity to feed rabbits, lambs, or goats. So, get ready and don't miss out, come on out to the Nikiski Community Recreation Center!! We can't wait to see you there.
